Linda Eng is a singer/pianist/guitarist/drummer and a credentialed K-12 music teacher with 20 years experience and degrees from top Nashville, Tennessee schools. Her business, Great Performances Studio, provides in-depth study of voice and piano, as well as guitar, ukulele, composition/arranging, music theory, ukulele, and drum set. She is an Artist in Residence with Poway Unified School District.
Performance
Linda is a multi-instrumentalist and singer. She performs vocals and keyboard with the band Arrow Head (Classic Rock and Pop), and previously with the bands Royal Heat and The Legends Showband, (Rock and Roll, Motown, Blues, Country). With these bands she has performed on stages throughout San Diego county, including the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, parks' concert series, weddings, class reunions, private parties, and restaurants. Her vocal performance credits also includes a variety of soprano sacred music solo work and professional-level choral with the Concert Chorale of Nashville. She has held roles in a variety of youth musical theater productions and directs musicals and musical revues. She also works as a church music band leader, singer, keyboardist, and guitarist.
Private Studio Instruction
Equally at home teaching both professional voice and piano lessons, Great Performances Studio caters to both piano AND voice students, while allowing students to combine those instruments with a single instructor. Students may also study ukelele, guitar, drumset, composition, and songwriting. Her in-home studio includes opportunities for testing with the Royal Conservatory of Music®, the premier, international organization of piano excellence. Vocal students compete in the National Association of Teachers of Singing contests throughout the year. She hosts yearly recitals which are required of students. She is the piano class instructor at The House Music and Dance, where she provides beginning piano instruction in a fun piano lab setting.
Student Accolades
Several of her current and former students gig professionally around San Diego, accompanying themselves on piano or guitar. Her piano students have a 100% pass rate on the most comprehensive and widely-recognized piano exam in the world, the RCM© exam.
Linda's private voice and piano students have won the following awards:
• America's Got Talent (televised semi-finalist)
• Rancho Bernardo Idol (1st place and 2nd place)
• North County Idol (1st and 2nd place winners)
• Del Mar Fairgrounds (auditioned stage performers)
• The Poway Rodeo (2nd place)
• The Ramona Fair (1st place)
Her students have been accepted into the following schools to major or minor in music:
• The Berklee College of Music (Vocal Performance Major- congratulations Amalea Ribiero!)
• San Diego State University (Music Education, Opera)
• The University of Southern California's Thorton School of Music (Music Business and Law)
School Teaching
As a credentialed music teacher, Linda has personally taught over 2,000 students from pre-school to grade 12 in San Diego and Nashville-area schools. She has been honored to host many recitals, musicals, choral performances, recorder, ukulele, guitar, xylophone, and drum ensembles of over 100 children at a time in her employment with school districts. She has developed the following curricula for the following K-12 courses to date: Class Ukulele, Music Street, Piano Lab, Children's Choir, Class Drumming, High School Musical Theater, Class Guitar, High School Concert and Show Choir, High School Barbershop Quartet, Music Memory®, Recorder Karate, Music Composition, Music Appreciation, and Music Theory Classes.
Linda is fortunate to have learned from over 20 music instructors while growing up near Nashville. She seeks to pass on their legacy of music instruction. The majority of Poway public school students lack instruction from even one credentialed music educator during their entire K-12 public education, unless they pay for this privately. The rise of 1:1 technology in schools has diverted budgets away from music instruction, among other curricular areas. Music education is an essential part of the human experience and the core curriculum; every child deserves a highly qualified music educator.
Training and Memberships
She holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Belmont University in Nashville and was named Most Outstanding Senior Music Major and Most Outstanding University Junior on a Vocal Music Scholarship. She holds a Masters in Curriculum and Instructional Leadership (M.Ed.) from Vanderbilt University, where she held a Research Assistantship in the top-ranked Peabody School of Education.
Linda Eng serves on the Board of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) San Diego Chapter. She is a member of the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC).
