Piano Lessons

Private piano lessons are offered to ages 6 and up.  My goal is to give each student a lifelong ability to play the piano well, entertain others, and enjoy themselves in the process!  Lessons are highly supportive and fun because learning the piano should be a process of discovery and beauty, not boredom.  Piano lessons are a multi-year commitment for the family.

My piano students have the option of studying the international Royal Conservatory of Music® piano curriculum.  Students may also study improvisational piano and music composition/ song writing.  All piano students, whether RCM track or not, also play in the yearly recital.  Students will find other playing opportunities in school talent shows and for family and friends.

Playing, reading, and practice skills take time to develop. A broad variety of quality music, music theory training, and attention to detail are necessary.  Therefore, most students benefit from emphasis on these more than on frequent public performance.

What are private piano lessons?

If you are interested in learning a musical instrument, piano is a great place to begin.  It doesn't hurt fingers, and piano can help you to develop strong music reading skills, dexterity, and self-discipline.  Here's how a strong piano teacher can guide you:

Beginner level and beyond:
  • Teach music reading fluency and independence
  • Teach students HOW to practice
  • Clearly define WHAT is to be practiced
  • Teach songs, technique, and theory together using quality piano curricula
  • Demonstrate songs
  • Be positive and patient, yet firm
  • Teach counting, rhythm, and tempo adherence
  • Teach and play beyond the beginner level
  • Model and reinforce good technique
  • Help families to structure effective practicing at home
  • Provide performance and recital opportunities

Intermediate-Advanced level:
  • Teach a variety of musical styles, time periods, and composers with discussion of each
  • Teach pieces of varying lengths
  • Provide specific, detailed feedback
  • Analyze music theory within songs
  • Encourage your development as an artist who expresses emotion through dynamics, articulation, and phrasing at the piano
  • Provide performance, recital, and piano testing opportunities

Private piano lessons are offered to ages Kindergarten and up.  Lessons are highly supportive and fun because learning the piano should be a process of discovery and beauty, not boredom!  Linda's students learn how to read music securely, play accurately with beauty and feeling, and practice independently.  Other musicians consistently praise her recitals for the preparedness and beauty with which her students play.  The goal is to give each student a lifelong ability to play the piano well, entertain others, and enjoy themselves in the process!

Linda's students have longevity with her; piano lessons are a multi-year commitment for the family.  Students may also study contemporary, improvisational piano, chord theory, and composition as well.  All piano students participate in a yearly studio recital and are encouraged to play at their school talent shows and the like throughout the year.
